Zambia: Boxer Chisanga Lands WBO Fight

EXCITING flyweight boxer, Pethias Chisenga has been handed a career defining World Boxing Organisation (WBO) International title fight against Namibia's Abmerk Shindjuu, who is the defending champion.
Chisenga, whose record reads nine wins and one loss, will get the title shot on December 6 this year in Windhoek against a boxer he has fought twice before.
His coach and manager Anthony Mwamba yesterday confirmed the development saying it was a great opportunity that his boxer will not let slip off his hands.
"Pethias (Chisenga) has been given a WBO International title fight against the reigning champion Abmerk Shindjuu of Namibia. The fight will be in Namibia and we shall be leaving on December 3 for the big fight," he said.
Whereas Mwamba will be excited about his boxer getting a title shot, he is quickly reminded that the one loss that dents Chisenga's record was at the hands of Shindjuu, his opponent for next weekend's title fight.
"Yes that loss was to Shindjuu but you will be more excited hear that after that loss, they two fought again and Pethias won that fight by a unanimous decision, so we have the advantage," he said.
In the two boxers' first meeting on October 12 last year at the Windhoek Country Club Resort, Shindjuu won the fight by majority decision after two judges gave him a tight victory while the third scored for a draw.
And in the rematch, also a non-title fight at the same venue on 20th March this year, Chisenga avenged the earlier loss by defeating the Namibian and African champion via a unanimous points' decision.
Shindjuu is a hugely experienced boxer who has also fought but lost for the Commonwealth title and has 13 wins and five losses and carries a 25 per cent knock-out rate.
But Mwamba said that did not intimidate him a bit adding his boxer has been having intensive training for the last six months and this chance will not slip off his hands.
Mwamba also announced that Sheriff Kasongo from Exodus Stables will challenge WBO African welterweight Champion Sacky Shikukutu of Nestor Sunshine boxing Academy over 12 rounds.
"Thanks to Nestor Sunshine boxing Academy for giving us this opportunity, I would also like to thank the Boxing Board of Control (BBC) and the Government for the assistance," he said.
